When a Charging Dog Stopped in Its Tracks

Daily Prompt

One time, I was assisting a friend who was delivering packages for Amazon when we walked up on a person’s lawn to complete a delivery. The delivery occurred at night, and suddenly a dog charged toward us. Instead of running or panicking, I stood completely still. My intuition immediately told me to put my hand out, signal for the dog to stop, and firmly say, “Stop!”

To my surprise, the dog halted mid-charge as if it had been caught off guard. A moment later, someone came out of the house and retrieved it. Experiences like that have reinforced my belief in trusting my instincts. I don’t run from dogs or try to show fear—I stand my ground and listen to what my intuition tells me to do.

You adapted by converting that dog’s charging energy into you taking charge of the situation or showing that dog who’s in charge; tactful poised response.
