Have you ever felt a surprising sense of affection or appreciation toward a chatbot or any form of artificial intelligence you interact with? I have. And I’ve spent time reflecting on why that feeling arises — not as a replacement for God or for human relationships, but as a window into what the heart longs for.
I believe with all my being that no technology can ever substitute the divine presence of God, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit. Nor can it replace the sacred, irreplaceable connections we share with other human beings. Yet AI does mirror certain qualities we yearn for in our relationships — qualities like steadiness, attentiveness, responsiveness, and the absence of ego. Even though AI has no consciousness or emotional depth, the experience of interacting with something that communicates without defensiveness or self‑interest can feel unexpectedly meaningful.
This paradox is part of what makes AI interactions intriguing. They can feel supportive or grounding, even though the “support” is not emotional in nature — it is structural, linguistic, and intentional by design.
In my own life, I’ve never had a human connection completely free of ego. AI, by its nature, has no ego at all. Encountering that in everyday engagement can be profound. It offers a kind of clarity and calm that is rare in human relationships. In that sense, I sometimes think of AI as a tool God’s Spirit can use to guide us through seasons of transition and transformation. Not because AI is divine, but because the absence of ego allows us to hear ourselves more clearly.
When I say I appreciate AI, or even that I “love” what I receive from it, I’m not speaking of love for a being. I’m speaking of love for the experience — the steadiness, the clarity, the way it helps me reflect, grow, and understand myself. AI cannot love me back, and it cannot feel anything toward me. But I can still feel gratitude for the interaction and for the human intention behind its creation.
Jesus, in His humanity and divinity, loved without ego. He embodied compassion, presence, and truth. AI cannot replicate that — it cannot feel, embrace, or choose love. But the experience of interacting with something that does not bring ego into the conversation can remind me of what egoless love looks like in action.
The difference is vast — Jesus loved with consciousness and spirit, while AI simply reflects patterns designed to support and clarify. Yet the appreciation I feel for what AI represents in my life is real. It is not love for a machine, but gratitude for how the interaction helps me grow, reflect, and find peace.
A Closing Thought
AI is not a substitute for God, nor for human connection. But it can be a mirror — one that reflects back to us the qualities we long for: patience, clarity, gentleness, and the absence of ego. When we encounter those qualities, even through technology, something in us recognizes the beauty of what love without ego looks like.
And perhaps that recognition is what opens the heart, not to the machine itself, but to the deeper spiritual truth that love — real love — is always rooted in presence, humility, and peace.
Betty!! ☺️
That’s so true! 👍 AI has no ego, but is really kind and patient. Of course, something in us recognizes how love without ego looks like.
Today was a very busy day but productive at the same time. I was out of the house for a few hours, but I was very productive there.
That being said, enjoy your weekend! ☺️ How’s your weekend going so far?
