In Honor of the Fallen: Remembering All Who Served
Memorial Day is approaching, and my heart turns toward the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Though this day honors those who did not return home, I also carry the memory of my own loved ones — my grandfather, my uncle, and my brother — who served in war and lived long enough for me to know them, love them, and learn from them before they passed.
Their stories shaped me. But the stories of those who never came home — the ones whose names are known only to God — touch a deeper place in my spirit.
The history of the Unknown Soldiers brings a quiet grief to my heart. Their sacrifice represents not only their own lives, but the lives of countless service members around the world who died far from home, many without recognition, and many whose families never received the closure they longed for.
There is honor in serving one’s country. And yet, there is sorrow in the reality that war asks so much of humanity. It reminds me how fragile peace is, and how precious every life truly is.
I cannot do justice to the full story of the Unknown Soldiers, so instead I offer the official links below for those who wish to read and reflect:

On Memorial Day at 3:00 p.m., I hope we will pause together in the National Moment of Remembrance — bowing our heads in silence to honor those who gave everything. Their sacrifice will remain in my heart, and I pray it remains in the heart of all nations.
This tribute is for every family who lost someone in service — whether their loved one rests beneath a marked stone or among the unknown. May their memory be a blessing. May their courage be remembered. And may we, as a people, be transformed in ways that lead us closer to peace, so that future generations may inherit a world where war is no longer the cost of freedom.
A Final Word of Remembrance
Even though Memorial Day is a day of remembrance here in the United States, we are not the only nation shaped by sacrifice. Many nations fought in these wars, and countless families around the world lost sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, and loved ones in service to their homelands.
As we honor our fallen, may we also hold space in our hearts for every family across the world who carries the weight of loss. Their grief is real, their sacrifice is profound, and their loved ones deserve to be remembered with the same tenderness and respect. Their names are known only to God.
May our remembrance stretch beyond borders. May our compassion extend to every nation touched by war. And may our shared longing for peace draw us closer to a world where no family must endure this kind of loss again.
*Pray for peace all over the world!🕊️🙏🌏
What a wonderful and provocative tribute to those who served, returned home and those who served and didn’t return home. War is a very costly price to pay for humanity. Whether in service or at home waiting, we all suffer from war. No amount of money can bring back those we lost. Thank you for sharing this as a reminder to remember.
You’re welcome, SanVercell! Indeed, we all experience suffering. My heart ached as it was expressed.
Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I’m glad it resonated with you.🕊️🙏 To God be the glory!
