My Unbreakable Promise

One promise I made to myself — and have kept without compromise — is that I will never again allow anyone to abuse me in any form. Not verbally, not mentally, not emotionally, and certainly not physically.

I lived through an abusive marriage, and surviving that experience changed me. It taught me how easily mistreatment can become a pattern, how silence can become a trap, and how important it is to protect my own dignity. When I finally left, I made a vow to myself: No one will ever speak to me, treat me, or handle me in a way that tears me down again.

Today, I honor that promise. If someone raises their voice at me, if they try to belittle me, if they cross a boundary — I address it directly, calmly, and with the wisdom I’ve earned. And if the behavior continues, I walk away. I don’t negotiate with disrespect, and I don’t stay where my peace is threatened.

Thank you for your kind words, Mike! I greatly appreciate them!

Being free within makes for a happy life! Today, I can truly say I am in a much happier place. In the past, I was made a scapegoat for someone else’s misery, and because I wasn’t free enough within myself, I couldn’t defend against it. But that chapter is behind me now. I’ve moved on, and the freedom I’ve found within has given me strength, peace, and joy!

  2. Actually, there is a thoughtful difference between forgiving somebody and giving them unlimited access to hurt or upset you again. And, your post captures that distinction beautifully.

Yes,there is a real difference between forgiving someone and allowing them continued access to you.

We all grow mentally, emotionally, and spiritually at different rates. If a person’s development hasn’t reached the point where they can interact without causing harm, then yes — you can forgive them, but you do not have to allow them back into your physical or personal space. Forgiveness is grace; access is responsibility.

I appreciate you reading and engaging with the post, Rakesh! I value your feedback!
